Sylt

Sunshine and a free weekend offered a great opportunity to visit northern Germany with its small islands. Since in summertime most islands are fully booked we opted for Sylt where we found a great hotel which still had a free apartment to rent. Departing Landshut (EDML) in our Grumman Tiger we turned directly towards Sylt (EDXW) and climbed to FL090 where we had strong tailwind carrying us northbound in record time. The approach into Sylt offered a great view of the whole island and its beaches, the airport ground service, however, lacked a bit in hospitality and efficiency. After a 20 Minutes walk halfway around the airport from the General Aviation Terminal to the Commercial Aviation Terminal we were able to rent a car to explore the island on our own. In the evening we enjoyed the setting sun at our small thatched house in our very own garden with its beach chair. Next morning after one of the best breakfasts we have ever had, we sadly returned to the airport to fly back home to Landshut.
