Southern Africa - Part4: Etosha National Park

Today we left Sossusvlei after a late breakfast since we had to avoid again the morning fog at the coast. We departed to the west overflying the Namib until reaching the coast where we turned north. On our way along the coastline, we saw the many shipwrecks the Skeleton Coast is known for and in between hundreds of seal colonies relaxing at the beach. Our first destination today was Swakopmund (FYSM) to refuel before heading inland to Mushara Lodge Airstrip. Approaching Swakopmund we encountered the last bit of the morning fog as low clouds which we could overfly before starting our descent into the uncontrolled airport of Swakopmund with its long gravel runway. Refueling was quick so we were able to depart in no time for Mushara. In order to see Brandeberg, we turned north-east flying low level over the desert until reaching the mountain. From there on we flew east for nearly 2 hours over vast stretches of forest, hills, and Savannah. Reaching Mushara Lodge we decided to land westwards however with a slight tailwind and a short gravel runway we needed two attempts before landing safely. At the strip, we were already awaited by our guide who welcomed us and drove us to our lodge at the entrance of the Etosha National park.
